I developed a technique of placing the elements of a picture into a grid pattern. I wanted to create pictures which supplied a large number of pieces of information on a particular theme - for instance, a picture which is a portrait of a person but without an image of that person - details from their life and likes, or a reflection on a particular place.
Sometimes these 'small squares' pictures are mostly abstract, just giving a feel of a subject with no literal reference to the subject itself. I like to use both a computer and conventional paint and collage when I make these.
