I love landscape and particularly the Hampshire and Wiltshire Downland where I live, I enjoy the imagination that I put into what I do.
I work decoratively and from my mental images: to paint a realistic picture of the land would be not very interesting for me. It would have little personal element and too few opportunities for invention.
I am interested in a kind of magical realism, in projecting the elements of a story into a place I have seen and interpreted - its play, really. A fusion between fine art and illustration - a division which I feel is made too wide in the 'art' world... some of the illustration work done in this country is absolutely wonderful and deserves far more acclaim and attention.
